DAO SPECIAL 3:

Marine vertebrate zoonoses

The role of marine vertebrates as potential vectors of human infectious disease agents can be examined from a variety of perspectives. The studies in this DAO Special investigate whether the presence of zoonotic agents in marine vertebrates represents a risk to other vertebrates; routes of acquisition and circulation in the marine ecosystem; the degree to which such agents cause overt disease in marine vertebrates; the subsets of the human population most likely to be affected by such infections; and which human health preventive measures would seem reasonable.
