Video clip #1 (.mpg, 3.1MB) shows infrared time-lapse footage of a successful attack by a small octopus Octopus maorum on a tethered juvenile spiny lobster Jasus edwardsii. The footage (run-time ca. 20 s) shows a 3 min sequence including initial contact, attempted escape by the lobster, followed by the octopus capturing and subduing the lobster.

Video clip #2 (.mpg, 3.9MB) shows infrared time-lapse footage of a successful attack by a red-swimmer crab Nectocarcinus tuberculosis on a tethered juvenile spiny lobster Jasus edwardsii. The footage (run-time ca. 25 s) shows a 3.5 min sequence of the crab capturing and subduing a lobster. The initial attack by the crab was unsuccessful, however, the crab appeared to actively use the tether to capture the lobster, shortening the tether until the lobster was unable to escape.
