Supplementary Video
Swimming by advanced stage Pisaster ochraceus brachiolaria larvae. The video shows all five pairs of larval arms and the 3 brachiolaria arms characteristic of the XVIII stage. The longest of the 5 arms, the posterolateral arms are shown moving anteriorly and posteriorly. Brachiolariae are also shown rotating with the aid of the posterolateral arms. These arms are moving mainly synchronously but sometimes asynchronously.
