Currently all ESR articles are published online with open access. As from the first volume of 2011 (Vol. 13) articles will no longer receive free open access; authors can purchase open access (see here). However, all manuscripts submitted by August 31, 2010, will, if accepted, be published with free open access, regardless of which volume they appear in.

ESR issues are built online, with articles appearing individually as soon as editorial modifications are approved by the authors and without waiting for an issue to be full. Production time is thus kept short. Issues are printed when complete.
