We recognize the possibilities offered by AI tools in scientific publishing. To provide transparency to the academic community, Inter-Research implements the following policies based on the recommendations of STM and the position of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
AI and definition of authorship
Inter-Research does not recognize AI as an author under its authorship policy.
Authors
Authors may use AI tools to improve human-written texts for readability and clarity (e.g. to correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and tone). AI tools used in the research methods must be described within the Methods section in detail that the procedure is reproducible.
Support provided by generative AI must be disclosed in the Acknowledgement (please use the text below) and should be checked by all the authors. The use of AI-paraphrasing tools or AI word spinners for modifying text is not allowed. The authors are responsible for the content of their manuscript and therefore, are liable for any errors, potential plagiarism or inconsistencies introduced by AI tools. These issues may be grounds for rejection of the work by the Editorial Board. Due to copyright issues, Inter-Research cannot permit the use of AI-generated images and videos for publication.
Disclosure:
During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.
Review process
Manuscripts under review should under no circumstances be uploaded, in part or in whole, by reviewers or editors to generative AI platforms as this could violate the confidentiality of the peer review process, privacy of authors, and the copyright of the submitted manuscript.
Reviewers
Reviewers are invited as experts of their field and their in-depth knowledge, experience and critical thinking far exceeds the general recommendations that AI tools can offer. AI tools may be used to improve the reviewer's text for readability and clarity (e.g. to correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and tone), but this must be disclosed in the confidential comments to the Editor. Reviewers are responsible for the content of their evaluation.
Editors
Editors play an essential role within the peer review process to ensure the integrity and rigor of this process. AI tools may be used to improve the Editor's comments to authors for readability and clarity (e.g. to correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and tone), but this must be disclosed in the confidential comments to the Editorial Board. Editors are responsible for the content of their evaluation.
As AI technology is rapidly evolving, we will regularly review this policy and update as needed. (Revised 22.01.2026)
